If a real estate agent does not live locally, they might not be as motivated, or have the same knowledge of the local area. If you’re selling in Brighton, it’s probably not a good idea to go with an agent whose offices are in Tarneit. If you’re selling in Koo Wee Rup, we wouldn’t recommend you call up the local Port Melbourne real estate agencies.

Find an Agent Experienced with Your Property Type

Every property is different. Whether you’re selling a one-bedroom apartment, a multi-million dollar luxury home, or a commercial warehouse, you should select an agent with experience in that specific market.

  • Selling off-the-plan? Choose an agent familiar with project marketing.

  • Selling a prestige home? Work with someone who has access to high-net-worth buyers.

  • Selling a warehouse or retail space? A commercial real estate specialist is generally required.

Get multiple quotes

Don’t settle for the first agent you speak to. Get a few appraisals and compare:

  • Commission rates

  • Estimated sale prices

  • Marketing strategies and associated costs
